Today, on 19 November 2019, the Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) of the Republic of Kosovo and the Energy and Water Services Regulatory Commission (REC) of the Republic of North Macedonia signed a Cooperation Agreement. The signing of this Agreement expresses the mutual interest of both institutions to cooperate in fulfilling their obligations regarding the regulation of energy sectors of both countries.

By signing this agreement, the two regulatory authorities have agreed to exchange information on the practices applied during the fulfilment of  obligations that are in the public interest of both countries. The exchange of experiences will be applied in the field of regulatory policies in the energy sector, experiences in monitoring licensed activities, methodologies applied for determination of tariffs for energy activities, construction of new RES generators and different ways of supporting RES projects as well as other applied practices that will help build the professional capacity of both institutions.

On this occasion, the Acting Chairman of EROBoard, Mr. Arsim Janova, emphasized that the signing of this agreement concretizes the cooperation between the two regulators. Such cooperation, as he highlighted, has also taken place in the past, especially in various Working Groups of Energy Community where both institutions are members. He also stressed the importance of cooperation in terms of transposing EU directives into the regulatory framework of both countries.

The Chairman of ERC  Commission, Mr. Marko Bislimoski, thanked the ERO representatives for the hospitality and emphasized that the signing of this agreement is formalizing the cooperation between the two regulators, especially the activities within the Energy Community where both regulators have common interests, and also as  two neighbouring countries, they share  the same problems.

Representatives of both regulators have agreed that the future cooperation events will include the technical level of experts, where experiences and expertise in dealing with various issues of energy sector regulation in the Republic of Kosovo and Republic of North Macedonia shall be exchanged.
