Today, on 14 November 2023, in Athens, Greece, with the Support of USAID and NARUC, the Chairman of ERO Board together with the other chairmen from the boards of the regulators of Albania, Greece, North Macedonia, executive directors of transmission system operators (TSOs) and energy exchanges (PXs) of relevant countries, signed the Memorandum of Understanding in relation to the Market Coupling Project.  

This Memorandum of Understanding on the coupling of the electricity markets of south-eastern Europe between respective countries establishes the legal and regulatory framework on the cooperation to move forward the integration of pan-European market of electricity. The integration of regional electricity market of respective countries will improve the security of supply, competition, transparency and fulfils the obligations that we have as a country towards the pan-European market.

The Memorandum of Understanding sets the duties of implementing structures of respective institutions which shall supervise the overall progress and promote the successful development and implementation of the coupling of day-ahead electricity markets of Albania, Greece, North Macedonia and Kosovo.

In line with the Memorandum of Understanding, the Implementation Group on Coupling of Electricity Markets was established. With an absolute majority of votes, the Chairman of the Board of Energy Regulatory Office, Mr. Ymer Fejzullahu was elected Chairman of the Implementation Group for the coupling of electricity markets. The Implementation Group for the coupling of electricity markets consists of the chairmen of the boards of regulators from the respective countries.
